SOAPIE STAR IS ASTONISHED BY RACISM
Actress Mbali Mlotshwa knew she would receive
nasty and racial slurs when she joined 7de Laan but she never thought she would
receive it from the people on set.
Mlotshwa
a business woman married to the popular DJ Black Coffees joined the Afrikaans soapie ,7de Laan on SABC2 earlier this year where she plays the
role of Nandi. She is her parents beloved silver spoon daughter who has a keen
interest in fashion and photography. She initially dated S’fiso but she finds herself falling inlove with his
boyfriends best friend and flatmate who was her model. The two tried hiding their
feelings for each other but love conquered them, regardless of how they tried
to conceal it .The chemistry between the two was swept under the carpet until
the inevitable happened when they kissed.Mlotshwa
points out that her characters on screen
interracial relationship with Bernard was met with a lot of racist slurs
from both the veiwers and on set. She
says that working there was not easy and finding her grip was the most
difficult but she took it on with the utmost humility. When she first joined she
did not expect any of these slurs especially from the set because she thought
they would understand her better and since they were educated people they would
not have a problem with her.
The
slurs on social media began when a picture of the characters ,Nandi and Bernard
kissing was posted on the soapies Facebook page .Ann Esterhuizen said “Luckily
there are other channels to watch,I am not a racist but people must know their
places.Soapies give certain races sh**ty ideas”.Alot of people were angered by
this post but many tried to defend the
storyline.Kaizer Kganyago said that they were not aware of this incident but
they are totally against racism.
